Roro Eustache, a native Haitian and a graduate of Ozark Christian College led in that effort. He was joined in ministry very shortly by his brother Gerard following his graduation from Cincinnati Christian College. Together the brothers have led in very successful church work in Haiti. Today, HCO has 4 churches and 2 schools in Haiti plus a feeding program, periodic medical clinics, and an evangelistic outreach throughout Haiti and the Dominican Republic through CREDO, a group of singers and preachers directed by Gerard.
In 2001, Emmanuel Christian Church in Port au Prince led in the establishment of Emmanuel Christian Church in Cite Solei, the poorest slum in the country. The older congregation is giving support to the newer church by providing money, leadership and resources. We also started a small school there. HCO continues to work with 2 other congregations that go by the name of Emmanuel Christian Church; one in Cyvadier (near Jacmel), one in Seguin. Jacmel is a sea coast city south of Port au Prince. There, we partner with Damou Christian Mission (the work of Tina Isenhower). They have a school and other ministries in conjunction with the Church. We treasure that partnership. The church at Seguin, up in the mountains between Port au Prince and Jacmel is a partnership with the work of Bob Keesee and others who help there. Bob sits on the HCO board and has a ministry called Raincatchers. He installs a unique type of guttering system which helps the mountain people retain pure water. Also, a young nurse, Theresa Murphy from Ft. Lauderdale, FL has a clinic near the church.
Roro, Stephen, Gerard In Port au Prince, plans call for us to increase the size of our ministry dramatically. We are in the process of building a school that will accommodate 1000 students from pre-kindergarten through high school. At present, we have about 300 and the school goes through 6th grade. We now have 2 floors of the school building completed and are scheduled to finish another floor in 2003. We will add 7th and 8th grades next year. Plans also call for us to finish a new kitchen that will aid us in feeding the children daily some get 2 meals a day there. Our plans are to keep building. We are also in the process of building a clinic building. Presently, we take about 3 trips a year to do medical ministry. We set up the clinic in the church auditorium. While this is very helpful to the people we are limited as to what we can do. A building for that purpose will aid us. We are also praying and planning to staff that clinic year round. At the same time we are doing all that, we are also expanding the worship facilities. As the church continues to grow, more room is needed. This construction is being done with all Haitian labor. The ministry of HCO is growing. More people are being won to the Lord, fed, educated, and helped to have a better life. The more God blesses us, the more He asks us to do. There is no end to the need in Haiti. Please be in prayer for the country. Politically, there is a crisis situation. It looks like the present government is about to fall. Pray that God will direct the leaders of Haiti to love their country and allow Christians to aid them. |
